President Franklin Roosevelt warned us about Donald Trump’s lies about Social Security:
“It is an old strategy of tyrants to delude their victims into fighting their battles for them.”
Donald Trump is the tyrant, and the victims are the millions of Americans whose Social Security benefits Trump’s administration will cut, while expanding tax breaks for his billionaire backers.
But in order to prevent the American people from seeing the threat clearly, Trump is sending fundraising emails claiming that immigrants are the danger to Social Security. That’s blatantly false―more immigration would mean more workers paying into our Social Security system, strengthening the program.
Immigrants aren’t a threat to Social Security. Billionaires are a threat to Social Security, along with their bought-and-paid-for politicians, like the members of the Republican Study Committee. The RSC released a plan to raise the retirement age and cut $1.5 trillion from Social Security, and an additional $1.1 trillion from Medicare, and additional trillions coming from Medicaid and the ACA.
What do those cuts get us? Trump’s promised expansion of his 2017 tax giveaway, which would cost over $3.5 trillion.
Together, we can defeat Trump’s billionaire tax giveaway and PROTECT our Social Security benefits! Can you chip in $7 to block these schemes?
When pressed, members of the Republican Study Committee cry that their plan doesn’t cut benefits for current retirees.
First of all, that’s a lie. The plan immediately changes how benefits are calculated to make it harder for Social Security benefits to keep up with inflation.
Second of all, NO ONE’s benefits should be cut! My kids shouldn’t have to work until they die so that Jeff Bezos can buy another $500 million yacht.
Social Security doesn’t add a SINGLE PENNY to the deficit―but that’s never stopped Republicans from exploding the deficit with billionaire tax cuts and then using it as an excuse to demand cuts to our earned benefits.
Instead of slashing taxes even further, as Trump has promised, we should be taxing Trump’s billionaire buddies and expanding benefits for everyone!
