Hey there —

If you’ve followed any of our three campaigns, you've heard me say that a key objective for us is to "lose better." That means doing just a little bit better in the Republican-leaning areas of Michigan — losing with 44% of the vote in Holly Township rather than 39% or losing with 30% of the vote in Conway Township rather than 26%. My last election was a perfect example: We won our race by 5% — our biggest-ever win margin — and it was driven, in part, by our “losing better” performance in the most conservative areas of the district.

That's what we have to do to win this Senate race. Joe Biden got 43% of the vote in Bay County in 2020: can we do a little better in 2024? He got 36% of the vote in Delta County: can we do a little better in 2024?

For example, in Livingston County, a county I currently represent, Joe Biden won 37.91% of the vote in 2020. I won 40.06% of the vote in 2022. Those small margins of overperformance — three percent here, four percent there — in the places all across the state where we can do just a little bit better, are how we get across the finish line next November.

I am the only Democrat left in the House who has won in a district that went for Romney in 2012, Trump in 2016 and Trump again in 2020. That's because I campaign everywhere and take no vote for granted.

This is what we have to do to win this Senate race. Since we kicked off our race in last February, I have traveled to 25 counties across the state, attended hundreds of events, and met thousands of Michiganders — talking to people directly about the issues that really matter to them and their families and going to places early in the campaign that are not thought to be traditional Democratic strongholds.

That’s why I say: Lose better.

But a campaign like this requires all-hands-on-deck. We have a little less than 7 months to reach as many voters as possible to keep Michigan blue, but it’s going to take all of us working together. That’s why I would love to earn your support today. Will you consider making your first online contribution to my campaign for U.S. Senate in Michigan?
