John,
For the first time, the United States recognized April as Arab American Heritage Month last year. As a proud Arab American woman serving in Congress, I know how important it is that our community feels seen, heard, and celebrated by our government.
Unfortunately, this month also marks 6 months of genocide against the Palestinian people, with more than 33,000 killed from U.S.-made bombs and ammunition, and 2 million more forcibly displaced and forcibly starved by the Israeli military.
That’s why we need more courageous voices that are unapologetically committed to saving lives, no matter faith or ethnicity, by demanding a permanent ceasefire.
In Michigan, I’m proud to endorse a number of candidates with diverse backgrounds, and this month in celebration of Arab American Heritage Month, I want to highlight three Arab American candidates for State Representative―each of whom is leading demands for a ceasefire and uplifting the voices of marginalized communities.
Because these three candidates have had the courage to speak out for the humanity of the Palestinian people, each is vulnerable to attacks by those who seek to silence us―including by anti-Palestinian group AIPAC, which has pledged to spend $100 million in an attempt to defeat pro-ceasefire candidates running for all levels of office.
Help elect these three progressive Arab American candidates by splitting a donation between each today, as well as donating to my Rooted In Community Leadership PAC, which is investing in our communities and working to elect anti-war candidates at all levels of government.
We've made important strides in demanding representation and ending the systemic erasure of our communities. I've pushed for years to include Arab and Middle Eastern and North African communities in the U.S. Census―instead of requiring us to identify as “white” or “other”―and this year the federal government finally took action to do so.
Still, American Muslims and Arab Americans do not feel represented by our government right now.
Words and platitudes are not enough, especially at a time when leaders in the United States government dehumanize us and continue to send billions of dollars of weapons to kill innocent civilians in Gaza.
Join me in helping to elect these three courageous pro-ceasefire candidates by splitting a donation today between them and my Rooted In Community Leadership PAC, to ensure all of our voices are heard in government.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately, split evenly between Rima Mohammad, Layla Taha, Abraham Aiyash, and Rooted In Community Leadership PAC
Thank you for being by my side as, together, we demand the human and civil rights of all people from Detroit to Gaza.
In love and solidarity,
Rashida
