Dear John,
Last week, Israeli warplanes destroyed a building in Damascus that was reportedly part of the Iranian diplomatic compound, killing seven including three senior Iranian military officers. Now, Iranian officials are vowing significant retaliation and Israel is pledging to hit back in response to any attack. This is a dangerous moment, and will require diplomacy and restraint to pull us back from the brink of regional war.
It is also a reminder that only a permanent ceasefire that halts the killing in Gaza can seriously reduce the risks of a disastrous regional war entangling the U.S., Israel and Iran.
Next week, NIAC Action volunteers, in collaboration with hundreds of volunteers from over 40 organizations, are traveling to Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. to demand an immediate ceasefire and a surge of humanitarian aid into Gaza and to block more offensive weapons shipments to Israel and avert a regional war.
