Ever since the fifth grade, Mikie knew she wanted to serve her country just like her grandfather — a B-24 bomber pilot during World War II.

Mikie made it her mission to serve in the Navy, and she graduated from the Naval Academy in the first class of women eligible for combat. She became a helicopter pilot, serving missions in Europe and the Middle East in the H-3 Sea King.

From flying high in the skies to walking on the House floor, Mikie has always fought for something bigger than herself. For freedom. For democracy. For integrity and honor.

She’s never fought these battles alone.

Whether it was monitoring the Battle Watch Floor during the Iraq invasion, raising four kids, or flipping a red seat blue for the first time in decades — none of it wouldn’t have been possible without a big team effort.
