The new abortion ban in Arizona — which enforces a law that was passed before women even had the right to vote — is outrageous. It shows why we must elect a pro-choice House majority this November to reinstate abortion rights in all 50 states. And it’s not just Arizona. Despite the fact that Kansas voters resoundingly chose to protect abortion rights in our state, extremists in the State Legislature are still trying to take those rights away. In fact, they recently passed a bill requiring women seeking abortions in Kansas to report their reason for doing so to the state. This is an obvious attack on women’s ability to access abortion care. No one should have to report their personal health care decisions to the government. The fact is, we’ve already seen what leaving abortion up to the states looks like: one attack after another on our rights. One law after another making abortion care hard or impossible to access. One effort after another criminalizing IVF and putting doctors at risk of jail time for performing abortions, even when they do so to save the mother’s life.
