Yesterday, the Arizona Supreme Court upheld an abortion ban that dates back to before Arizona was even a state. After the ruling, the GOP attempted to do some damage control. Spoiler alert: it hasn’t gone well for them.
Figures like Donald Trump and others have been attempting to “moderate” their positions on abortion and reproductive rights — knowing full well that *the overwhelming majority of Americans support access to abortion*.
In fact, there is no such thing as “moderation” in today’s GOP. Just differing degrees of extremism. And we’re doubling down on our work this year to take down one of their loudest extremists — Ted Cruz. Please pitch in what you can today to help us retire him in November.
In the wake of the ruling, others in the GOP — like our part-time senator Ted Cruz — have doubled down in their support for a national abortion ban.
In yet another Fox News appearance earlier today, Cruz went on to say that “there is a place on the federal level” for a national abortion ban.
And that’s been the GOP’s endgame from the start, John. They were never going to be satisfied with just overturning Roe. Anti-choice extremists like Ted have long signaled they would vote for a federal abortion ban and other cruel restrictions on access to reproductive care.
Even worse — if the GOP retakes the Senate and White House later this year, there’s an increasingly high chance they’ll vote to get rid of the filibuster and send a national abortion bill to Donald Trump's desk, where he’d likely sign it.
