Asthma is a leading chronic illness among children and adolescents, with a higher incidence in African-American students and other students of color, and one of the top causes of school absenteeism. Join us in Chicago at In-Person NASN2024 for the School-Based Environmental Management of Asthma: Strategies and Health Equity Implications session with speakers Christy Haas-Howard and NASN's Karen Graf. This session will equip the school nurse to create school environments that minimize asthma triggers and other barriers to living well with asthma.

The Virtual NASN2024 session Equity and Collaboration—The Keys to Asthma Control, with speakers Ann Nichols and Lynne Meadows, covers treatment options that may simplify asthma management for families and address related health inequities experienced by some families.

The Center for Green Schools has developed a new School Health Research Library of over 280 peer-reviewed studies published worldwide since 2016 on the school built environment and occupant health and performance. To help translate this research into action in schools, an accompanying series of research highlights, including PM2.5, VOCs, and PFAS, is available for school leaders.

Kids love summer camp, and kids with diabetes are no exception. The Diabetes Education & Camping Association (DECA) aims to raise awareness about diabetes camps and their value to kids and families. School nurses are uniquely positioned to share information about the camps, and DECA offers resources to help you spread the word. You can also share DECA's Find a Camp Tool to help families locate a camp or use it to find opportunities to volunteer at a camp near you this summer! 

This National Minority Health Month, the HHS Office of Minority Health encourages everyone to Be the Source For Better Health for racial and ethnic minority populations.
