Despite the urgency of the situation, Governor Hochul has extended the budget deadline not once, but twice and likely a third time today, playing with our futures and delaying investments in the resources that New Yorkers depend on for a fairer, more just future.
Take action now, clicking through each of the bolded headings, demanding investments in public education, child care, and housing to ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Protect Public Education
Governor Hochul’s delays threaten to deprive our schools of essential resources, jeopardizing critical positions like guidance counselors, literacy coaches, and teachers. Any change to the Foundation Aid formula that is not part of a holistic approach and a study will result in less money for high-need, lower-income districts, hurting the students that need resources the most.
Support Child Care and Early Childhood Educators
Each day of delay puts our early child care workforce and the quality of care they are able to provide at risk. We demand fair wage investments in child care.
Ensure Affordable Housing
Because of negotiations around the housing crisis, Governor Hochul is holding up the budget, leaving thousands at risk of being unhoused. New Yorkers need investments in housing vouchers and public housing repairs to keep families housed.
Reject the cuts and all the proposals in Governor Hochul’s budget, and instead demand a budget that puts the intersectional needs of our communities first and ensures every child in New York has access to a quality education and safe place to call home.
