We The Action Volunteer,

Good Afternoon, and welcome to our weekly digest of current volunteer legal projects.

Later this month, on April 25 (4pm ET), we will be celebrating Volunteer Appreciation Month with a virtual event to recognize the amazing work of We The Action volunteers! This will be a chance to meet the WTA Team, hear about the great work of fellow volunteers, and participate in a Q&A with the team. We would love to see you there. Register for the event here!

We have nearly 80 legal projects that need your help:

1—5 HOURS

Help Black-led Community Groups Formalize their Organizations

Black Voters Matter

Black-led nonprofits — mostly based in Southern states — need help understanding and navigating the process of incorporating as a 501(c)(3) organization. This is a remote opportunity, and lawyers may be barred in any state.

11-20 HOURS

Help Afghan Asylees with Green Card Applications

VECINA

More than 80,000 Afghans have evacuated to the US since 2021, and many have been granted asylum. The next important step on the path to permanent safety in the U.S. is applying for adjustment of status (green card), the process of becoming a lawful permanent resident.  Attorneys are needed to assist Afghans granted asylum in filing these applications. Mentorship and training are provided, and lawyers may have any bar license.

6-10 HOURS

Help Afghan Refugee Sanctuary Network Obtain 501(c)(3) Status

Afghan Refugee Sanctuary Network (ARSN)

The Afghan Refugee Sanctuary Network (ARSN) has been formed to provide legal safe passage out of Afghanistan to safe countries. They need a lawyer to help them gain 501(c)(3) status so they can do the work to support the passage of these refugees. This is remote project, and lawyers may have any bar license.

1-5 HOURS

Data Transfer and Use Agreement for Rare Disease Registry

Cure HHT

Cure HHT is an international advocacy organization supporting and providing educational services patients and families with this rare blood vessel disease. They need a lawyer to review their data transfer and user agreements for their registry, currently being used for enrollment sites. This is remote project, and lawyers may have any bar license.

1—5 HOURS

Legal Advice on Land Purchase

Simwatachela Sustainable Agricultural and Arts Program [SSAAP]

SSAAP is a grassroots organization working to help rural Africa (Zambia and Sierra Leone) with clean drinking water via water wells. They are seeking to purchase a small piece of land for the project and need legal advice from an expert who is able to review the purchase agreement, work with the seller on the quick deed and title search. This is a remote project and lawyers may have any bar license.

We hope you and your loved ones are healthy and safe.

Best,
The We The Action Team
