For years, Democrats have warned that income inequality has worsened in this country -- the rich hoard more and more wealth while many more who are struggling are left to fight over fewer and fewer scraps.
In 2013, the House GOP voted unanimously to defeat a bill that sought to raise the minimum wage.
In 2014, the Senate GOP filibustered a similar bill from getting a vote.
Finally, in 2019, thanks to a wave of progressive Democrats winning their elections, the House passed the Raise the Wage Act. If this bill is enacted, it will incrementally raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour over the next 7 years. It will also eliminate the tipped minimum wage, ensuring they will no longer take home $2.13 an hour. But the Senate, led by Mitch McConnell, refuses to even consider the bill.
