In a blatant attempt to distract from a massive wave of Republican electoral losses, Donald Trump made headlines earlier this week by bragging about ending Roe v. Wade and claiming that he thinks abortion should be "left up to the states."

Despite his recent claims to the contrary, Trump has said at least four times this year that he supports a nationwide abortion ban.

This political posturing is nothing more than Trump and the GOP trying to distract us from the truth: Given the opportunity, they would ban abortion outright—without delay and with no regard for the consequences.

Just a day after Trump's "leave it to the states" comment, the Arizona Supreme Court upheld an abortion ban from the 1800s that effectively blocks all access in the state. THAT is what "letting the states decide" looks like—even though 9 in 10 Arizonans support access to abortion.

This week's Arizona court decision is just the latest example of why we need lasting, federal protections that guarantee the right to abortion access no matter where you live or where you're from .

And here's the thing about Trump:

* Just this week, he once again took credit for overturning Roe v. Wade by nominating the Supreme Court justices who were part of the devastating Dobbs decision.
* No matter what Trump claimed most recently, we have zero doubt that he'd sign a national abortion ban if a bill reaches his desk. He said he would just a few weeks ago!

All jokes aside, we will not ignore the threat Trump poses to our fundamental freedoms. Unlike Trump, we've never wavered in our belief that reproductive freedom is for every body, every where. And together, that's what we'll be fighting for throughout 2024 and beyond.
