Okay, here's something that really irks me, John:

Last minute amendments.

Just last week, 25 minutes after we started floor-time and had already started voting on bills to try and improve the lives of Iowans, House Republicans submitted an amendment attacking food stamps.

Legislating is hard, but we take great care to craft bills together to make legislation as near perfect as possible. Last week, we were about to vote on a bill concerned with lab created meat. The Republican majority thought this was the ideal time to put forward a last-minute surprise amendment, dictating what families who receive SNAP and WIC benefits can and cannot eat. I'm still livid.

But this is why I came to the state legislature, to stand up at a moment's notice and fight for hard-working Iowans. As we get closer and closer to the end of this legislative session I am reminded of one thing: We need more Democrats.

Far-right Republicans run the state legislature and they pull dirty tricks like this because they have the numbers to do it. Iowans deserve better, you deserve better.

We should have open debate on the issues, the process should be respected, and last minute amendments should solve problems, not take food out of the hands of disabled individuals, low-income families, and veterans.

Iowa deserves better. I'll keep standing tall for all of us here at the state capitol, but I need your help to do it. Can I count on you to chip in $11 today and help us grow our grassroots movement in the state legislature? [[link removed]]
