The climate crisis doesn’t just impact us and our communities; one-third of all species are facing extinction in our and our children’s lifetimes due to climate change. The good news is individual actions CAN add up to a collective impact that addresses climate change and limits damage to wildlife and habitat.
Here are six ways we can all take action this Earth Day and beyond:
Join WildAid on Earth Day, Monday, April 22ndat 12pm PST/3pm EST and celebrate the inspiring ways people are working together worldwide to protect wildlife and habitats from critical threats.
We’re hosting a 50-minute online conversation with WildAid's new leadership team: Meaghan Brosnan, Chief Executive Officer, John Baker, President and Chief Program Officer, and Leila Melody, Chief Financial and Administrative Officer.
Join us, and you’ll hear directly from Meaghan, John, and Leila as they share WildAid’s work, impact, and vision for the future. We’d love to see you there! Register on Zoom and come ready with your questions and suggestions.
Eat more plants! Carbon emissions have overtaken poaching to become the most significant threat to the iconic species we’ve been fighting so hard to protect -- elephants, rhinos, sea turtles, and so many more. We agree government and corporations need to do their part to reduce carbon emissions. But we don’t have to wait for them to take action. Last year the United Nations reported that our choices as consumers have the power to reduce total global emissions by up to 70% by the year 2050.
Animal products are super carbon-intensive, so opting for plant-based foods more often can make a big difference in reducing your carbon emissions. In fact, decreasing your meat, pork, and chicken consumption by 50% will cut your carbon emissions by 1,200 pounds year over year!
Change the way you do laundry. Microplastics are everywhere, from mountaintops to ocean trenches. They can also be found in many animal species – including us humans. Did you know one of the biggest sources of microplastic pollution is laundry? Synthetic fabrics shed microfibers constantly, especially when they’re washed.
Make one of these changes to how you do your laundry, and you’ll reduce microplastic pollution and decrease the carbon emissions generated from doing your wash:
Do your laundry less often.
Use cold water when washing your clothes.
Inspire your friends and family to take action:
Post on social media about your commitment to make lifestyle changes that safeguard wildlife and habitats.
Start a conversation. Talk to people in your life about your thoughts on the climate crisis and what you’re doing to take action.
Host a fundraiser on Facebook to raise donation support for WildAid’s conservation campaigns around the world.
Sign up for text messages from WildAid. You’ll receive wildlife conservation updates and international campaign highlights from us each month. Text the word WILDAID to (855) 949-6321.
Make a donation to WildAid. Your donation supports our global efforts to protect vulnerable wildlife and habitats on land and at sea.
We are the only nonprofit running mass media campaigns that transform consumer choices to benefit wildlife. Our Marine Protection Program has been internationally recognized for its unique and powerful impact on ocean life, winning Prince William’s prestigious Earthshot Prize in the ‘Revive Our Oceans’ category this year.
WildAid is in a singular position to drive change on a global scale. We have 20+ years of successful experience changing people’s attitudes and behaviors toward wildlife. Join us, and millions of people around the world from the U.S. to Cameroon to China, and take action today that protects vulnerable wildlife and habitat.
Conservation is a team sport, and we can’t do it without you. The biggest opportunity for change on Earth is us.
Yours for the wild,
Meaghan Brosnan
Chief Executive Officer
