Dear John,
In the heart of Uganda, a battle for basic human rights rages on — a battle that just took a discouraging turn. Activists have tried to appeal the worst LGBTQ law in the world, but the recent court decision on the law does not protect them. The death penalty remains in the new law, as do bans on LGBTQ organizing.
"LGBTQ people in Uganda deserve full protection and equal rights under the law, and the partial invalidation of the law is not enough," states Maria Sjödin, Outright’s Executive Director. “The fight is far from over. It's time for action, for coalition building, and for an unwavering commitment to LGBTQ equality.”
