Sea turtles are surrounded by deadly plastic pollution.

They're drowned by discarded fishing nets that wrap around flippers and necks. They're suffocated or choked by plastic grocery bags that are easily mistaken for a tasty jellyfish. They graze on shards of plastic bottles that hide in seaweed beds.

A lucky sea turtle can avoid these dangers and live to be up to 100 years old. But too many don't.1

To protect sea turtles and all marine life, we need to stop producing, using and discarding so much plastic -- and we need your support to help mobilize corporations and our government to take action to reduce plastic.

Some of the turtles that hatched in that plastic-free era are still alive today, but the world they live in now is full of new dangers. Plastic pollution is everywhere -- in the ocean, on beaches, and even inside the animals that call these habitats home.2

Every single sea turtle species has consumed plastic.3 One study found that 90% of tiny loggerhead turtle hatchlings off the coast of Florida have swallowed plastic -- and the numbers are worse for adult turtles.4

• We're calling on the corporations that produce and sell all this plastic -- soda bottles, foam coffee cups, the plastic packaging that comes with every box of cereal, basket of strawberries, carton of ice cream and more -- to phase out single-use plastics and replace them with more sustainable alternatives.
• We're urging the federal government to act by passing the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act, which would reduce single-use plastic nationally, boost recycling, composting and reusability, and more.5
• We're organizing grassroots support to urge decision-makers to enact statewide bans on the most wasteful forms of single-use plastic -- and we've won bans on plastic bags and polystyrene foam containers here in Colorado.
