The April 15 filing deadline is fast approaching.
In Minnesota, there is no filing extension form for returns. The late filing penalty will not apply for returns filed by October 15, 2024.
The late payment penalty and interest will apply for income tax not paid by April 15.
Here are some last-minute suggestions to help you and your clients:
- If your client cannot pay their full balance due, file the return and encourage them to pay as much as they can to minimize penalties and interest. Tell them to wait for a bill from us and then call us to set up a payment agreement.
- If your client qualifies for a 2023 property tax refund, they may also qualify for the 2022 refund. File Form M1PR, Homestead Credit Refund (for Homeowners) and Renter?s Property Tax Refund, before it expires on August 15, 2024.
- Prepare your clients now for the Renter's Property Tax Refund to move to Form M1 beginning with tax year 2024.?
