Friend, we are in an urgent moment for housing.
Right now, the real estate industry wants to roll back the biggest tenant protections New York has seen in decades while gutting Good Cause eviction.
Our movement won historic housing reforms in 2019 to keep tenants in their homes, but the landlord lobby is fighting hard to make it easier to evict families struggling to make ends meet and raise rents on rent-stabilized apartments.
The current housing deal negotiations in Albany would allow landlords to raise rents much higher on empty rent-stabilized apartments to pass the cost of basic maintenance onto tenants – and keep New York families locked out of housing they need to thrive.
We’re at a critical point and we need your voice, Friend. Can you call your state legislator to demand that they reject tenant protection rollbacks, fight for Good Cause eviction, and pass rental assistance for homeless New Yorkers?
Tenants have a lot on the line right now. Real estate industry lobbyists aren’t just trying to raise rents on rent-stabilized apartments. They’re trying to gut Good Cause eviction – which would protect tenants from unreasonable evictions – and failing to secure rental assistance for low-income New Yorkers.
Each of these laws would protect families and individual renters against unjust rent hikes, evictions, and homelessness. But right now Governor Hochul’s deal with the real estate lobby would set housing protections back by years just so she can keep her real estate donors happy.
We WON’T allow the greedy real estate industry to wipe out tenant protections and drive up homelessness in our state. Now is the time to take action – call your legislator to demand they fight back against rent stabilization rollbacks and reject a deal that throws tenants under the bus.
Thank you for taking action,
