Tips on How to Mentally Stay Well During This Crisis

Social distancing, self-quarantine, shelter-in-place... just a few short months ago, these were words most of us had not heard or, at least, couldn't imagine using in everyday conversation. And now, here we are.

As the vast majority of the human race adjusts to new habits, new schedules, and constantly changing restrictions within our countries and cities, here are a few tips collected from various sources on how to mentally stay well during this time.

"Avoid the internet rabbit hole. Limit the amount of time you spend watching the news and the frequency of times you check for updates. Limit social media in particular." - Psychology Today [[link removed]]"Maintain connections. Even the most introverted of us need some sense of connection to others for our mental as well as our physical health." - Nature.com [[link removed]]"Get outside in nature–even if you are avoiding crowds." - American Foundation for Suicide Prevention [[link removed]]"Pay it forward." - Psychology Today [[link removed]]

While we may not be able to help you limit your news intake, maintain connections, or get outside-- our team has been working for the past several weeks on creating virtual volunteer opportunities (or altering existing opportunities) that will help you continue to pay it forward throughout the crisis and beyond.

Our deployed service members are on the front lines of the war with this virus and many of our veterans are among those in the most vulnerable population. Let's come together and pay it forward to these incredible individuals.

We've put together some great virtual volunteer opportunities that can all be done from the comfort of your home with minimal supplies and/or supplies most of you already have at home. And if you don't, we've included links to products on Amazon that will help you get started.

So... no matter if you are trying to keep the kiddos busy, trying to engage employees remotely, or trying to fight your own quarantine blues... take a look, we have something for everyone! Scroll down for a brief description or click the button for full details.

Make Masks

Urgent help is needed to help supply VA Hospitals with masks. As medical supplies continue to run on low supply, healthcare workers are now requesting homemade masks to help protect against COVID-19.

Mission: Cards of SupportStuck at home in self-quarantine or shelter-in-place orders? Don't let boredom set in-- pick up a pen and greeting card and write a note of support for deployed service members and veterans!

After you write your cards, simply include $1 per car card and mail the cards to our headquarters in San Antonio. The cards will be included in care packages that are shipped to deployed service members around the world and will also be sent in bulk to VA's and veteran-focused assisted living facilities. The $1 will go towards one of the many Soldiers' Angels programs providing COVID-19 relief and support.

Make Para-Cord BraceletsA para-cord bracelet may seem like a small item to include in a care package, but service members love them! Not only are they useful survival items, but creating a para-cord bracelet requires a personal touch and an item that a service member could carry with them at all times. Personal items like this have a tremendous impact on morale and often become cherished by the recipient.

The supplies are easy to order from Amazon and the activity can be a great project to help keep you hands busy and your mind challenged.

Make No-Sew Blankets

Blankets make a great gift of warmth and comfort for deployed and veterans. No-Sew blankets are easy and fun to make.
