Kitsap County secures SIL grant to strengthen stormwater resilience

Stormwater Strategic Initiative Lead (SIL) grant

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. - Kitsap County is pleased to announce the acquisition of a Stormwater Strategic Initiative Lead (SIL) grant from the Washington Department of Ecology via the National Estuary program.

Awarded in March 2024, the $250,000 grant will be used to evaluate how stormwater influences localized roadway and public infrastructure flooding and basin capacity in the Point No Point Estuary. The project focuses on accurately quantifying stormwater and surface water effects under existing conditions as well as under estuary restoration conditions proposed by a concurrent study led by Mid Sound Fisheries. This project will be coordinated with Kitsap County Parks Department?s beach and shoreline repair efforts at Point No Point Park [ [link removed] ].

"Our receipt of the SIL grant underscores Kitsap County's commitment to protecting public safety and welfare while sustaining a healthy natural environment," stated Andrew Nelson, Public Works Director for Kitsap County. "The work done by the grant will allow us to investigate potential ways to address the effects of stormwater along Point No Point Road and the surrounding areas.?

Kitsap County Public Works [ [link removed] ] will begin the project later in 2024 with an estimated completion of early 2026. More information will be shared as this project progresses.
