Friend,
On Monday, Donald Trump announced that he believes abortion should be left up to the states.
He’s trying to confuse voters and run away from the role he played in overturning Roe v. Wade and stripping women of their fundamental rights. And if he wins this November, nothing is stopping him from enacting a nationwide abortion ban.
Yesterday, we saw the consequences of overturning Roe and “leaving it to the states.”
The Arizona Supreme Court handed down a decision that reinstates a near-total abortion ban from 1864. This 160-year-old law criminalizes doctors and makes no exceptions for rape or incest — and was passed before Arizona became a state, women had the right to vote, and slavery was illegal!
To put this in perspective: of the seven states that touch Colorado, only one (New Mexico) doesn’t restrict women's reproductive freedom.
This means two things.
One, it’s more important than ever to protect reproductive rights in Colorado for those seeking out-of-state abortions. Unable to get proper reproductive care in their own states, many women will choose to travel to Colorado. We must continue to be a haven for them.
Two, the stakes for electing a pro-choice majority to Congress and codifying reproductive rights in Colorado this November just got higher. The only way to prevent barbaric laws like these from taking effect is to pass nationwide protections for reproductive freedom.
I have been working nonstop to elect pro-choice Democrats and codify Roe v. Wade in Colorado and across the country — but I’ll need your grassroots support to get this done. Can I count on you to donate now?
