BREAKING: Arizona Reinstates 160-Year-Old Abortion Ban

"The state’s highest court said the law, moribund for decades under Roe v. Wade, was now enforceable, but it put its decision on hold for a lower court to hear other challenges to the law."

John, my heart is heavy.

Yesterday, Arizona’s Supreme Court ruled to uphold an archaic law dating back to 1864 that effectively bans almost all abortions.

This ruling is part of a nationwide trend and follows a precedent set by the United States Supreme Court after its decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and undo decades of settled law.

I am proud to have been recognized by Planned Parenthood here in Suffolk County with their Impact Award as a champion for reproductive freedom. In Congress, I will be as committed as ever to this cause and to ensuring that every individual has the ability to make decisions about their own reproductive health, as is their right.

Abortion is on the ballot this November, and we need to elect pro-choice leaders who will codify Roe into law and stop extreme attacks on reproductive health. Will you make a donation to my campaign today to help me flip NY-01 in November?

The decision to have an abortion is an intensely personal one that should only involve a woman and her healthcare professionals. Extremist politicians, especially men in DC, do not belong anywhere in that process.

Here’s the truth. This court decision will lead to longer wait times for an abortion, heavier financial burdens, more deaths from unsafe abortion attempts, and more women traveling across state lines for care — and low-income families and people of color will be among those hit the hardest.

As a scientist, I look at the facts. And the fact is, abortion bans won’t end abortions, they just take away the option for a safe abortion.

I will always stand up for individuals’ freedom to make decisions about their own reproductive health, but I need your help to win in November. If you’re committed to electing leaders who will stand up for reproductive rights, chip in today to help me defeat my extreme, anti-choice opponents.

Onward,

Nancy
