The Unz Review Digest - April 3, 2020
The relentless progress of the Coronavirus dominated our most popular articles this last week as completely as it did the mainstream media.
Our most popular piece by a very wide margin, with readership comparable to the combined total of the next two articles, was my own discussion of the story of Dr. Sarah Cody, an obscure California official who may have been responsible for saving a million or more American lives. As Public Health Officer of Santa Clara County, Dr. Cody and her colleagues ordered an unprecedented lock-down of the 7 million SF Bay Area residents on March 16th, a bold and courageous decision that was soon followed by other parts of California, the state as a whole, and numerous other large states. As I pointed out, the exponentially-growing spread of the infection suggests that delay of a single week could increase eventual deaths by as much as a factor of 25. As a result, California has almost entirely avoided the cataclysm engulfing many other parts of the country, and prompted others to take similar steps. Thus, it seems quite possible that Dr. Cody is responsible for saving more American lives than any other individual in our entire national history. This piece was widely distributed, including being Tweeted out by a MSM journalist at Politico, while drawing nearly 700 contentious comments totaling nearly 75,000 words, a substantial fraction of them from stubborn Coronavirus Hoaxers, who still claim “It’s Just the Flu!!!”
Ranking second was Eric Striker’s discussion of the horrific Coronavirus situation in Northern Italy, in which tens of thousands may already have died, largely due to the total ineptitude of the political elites of the EU and the US. Meanwhile, China has been exemplary, both in its success in eliminating the original outbreak and now delivering desperately-needed medical supplies to Italy and other stricken countries, while the US has done little or nothing, a thesis that was hotly debated in more than 400 comments totaling almost 50,000 words.
Third place was held by Pepe Escobar’s discussion of the efforts of the Neoliberal French government to prevent widespread public access to chloroquine, a cheap drug that may effectively combat the Coronavirus, instead ensuring that it generates large profits for the pharmaceutical industry.
Rounding out our most popular featured articles was the Saker’s discussion of other world developments taking place in the shadow of the epidemic, Philip Giraldi’s focus on the near-complete political takeover of Virginia by pro-Zionist political forces, and his own overview of the Coronavirus outbreak and its implications.
Finally, the traffic to our website easily broke all records for the month of March, representing an increase of 50% from that of late 2018, a very heartening growth pattern for our small webzine.
Dr. Sarah Cody. That's the name of a local government employee probably unknown to almost everyone reading this. Yet I think there's a good chance that a million or more Americans will owe her their lives. And therein lies a tale... Last Tuesday President Donald Trump announced that he expected to lift most health restrictions...

Another 832 people died from coronavirus in Italy today. The country's fatalities have passed 10,000. Some believe this number is a massive undercount and the number of deaths could be as high as 50,000. But an equally important story is how the liberal powers, particularly the European Union and NATO, have reacted to Italy's desperate...

The French government is arguably helping Big Pharma profit from the Covid-19 pandemic
What’s going on in the fifth largest economy in the world arguably points to a major collusion scandal in which the French government is helping Big Pharma to profit from the expansion of Covid-19. Informed French citizens are absolutely furious about it. My initial question to a serious, unimpeachable Paris source, jurist Valerie Bugault, was...

The COVID19/SARS-CoV-2 pandemic is, by any measure, an immense planetary crisis which will probably change the world we live in forever. Still, there are other issues which are maybe not quite as dramatic and important, but which deserve not to be forgotten. Here are some of those The grand betrayal of Tulsi Gabbard It was...

Jewish power manifest in the Old Dominion
Politicians, bureaucrats and media talking heads have long turned a blind eye to legislation and policies that benefit the state of Israel to the detriments of United States’ interests. The U.S. Treasury is plausibly describable as a gift that never stops giving to the people and governments of Jewish state. Since the foundation of Israel...

The coronavirus story has generated a number of major subplots. First is the origin of the virus. Did it occur naturally or was it created in a Chinese, American or Israeli weapons lab? If bioengineered, did it somehow escape or was it deliberately released? As the governments that might have been involved in the process...

My dear fellow citizens, I am the virologist, specialist in coronaviruses and respiratory diseases, whose views differ significantly from the experts who advise the government on the management of the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation is dire and I would like to offer you a clear plan for getting out of the health, economic and social...

OK, I’ve got some good news and I’ve got some some bad news. The good news is mainly for authoritarians who missed all the fun during the War on Terror. The news is … welcome to the War on Death! Yes, that’s right, global capitalism (a/k/a “the world”) is now at war with Death …...

In these Corona times, I often listen to Monty Python’s Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. This black cloud has a silver lining. With the virus roaming outside, teenagers deign to spend more time with their parents; wives are at home cooking dinners instead of hanging out with gorgeous strangers in posh cafés;...

Adventures in Jewish Historiography
I’ve been fascinated in recent days by Jewish commentary on COVID-19, which ranges from paranoid conspiracy theories about white nationalists to blunt admissions of intense Jewish ethnocentrism. In the first instance, the FBI’s apparently permanent and unironic surveillance of teenage chat sites has resulted in a stern but ludicrous warning that “extreme right-wing groups in...

China Wins Big With Covid-19. What Were We Thinking?
China suffered through the H1N1 coronavirus epidemic in 2008 largely because the CDC took 6 months to identify it and, as a result, 300,000 died prematurely. SARS (774 deaths) was the clincher. They created a hair-trigger alarm system, mandated post-mortem pneumonia DNA testing nationwide, and promoted the CDC head, Dr. George F. Gao[1], to Demigod....

Coronavirus Brings Back the Spirit of the Polis
The coronavirus epidemic has been highly instructive. In the face of a looming early death for millions of citizens, Western States have entered a genuine crisis in which the Schmittian sovereign – who was always there lying in waiting – has reemerged into the open and taken all the measures deemed necessary, liberty and law...

In Singapore, you can be jailed for half a year for failing to keep “social distance.” The same offense in New York will only get you fined for up to $500, although an 86-year-old woman has just been killed when she got too close to someone at a Brooklyn hospital. Out of masks, Tennessee doctors...

The Coronavirus epidemic may soon produce the greatest American disaster since our Civil War over 150 years ago, and numbers reveal the possible magnitude. For example, New York Times Columnist Nicholas Kristof on Sunday reported the disheartening analysis of Dr. Neil Ferguson of Britain, one of the world's leading epidemiologists. According to Dr. Ferguson the...

A mixed bag. This morning we sallied forth to stock up on the essentials of life in time of plague, such as throat sanitizer--Wild Turkey serves well. In the liquor store, employees wore face masks. I’m happy to debate Tony Martel on the coronavirus. I will start out by noting that I have been a critic of liberalism and global free-market capitalism for the past twenty years. America’s Leading Antiwar Voice Is Destroyed by Hillary
In American politics, it is not often that one sees an assassination carried out in public, but that is exactly what the Democratic Party establishment did to peace candidate Tulsi Gabbard. She was sidelined right from the beginning of her campaign and the fact that she was a woman of color and a veteran earned...
