Dear John,
Yesterday evening, The L.A. County Board of Supervisors, led by Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell , voted to approve a Fair Work Week ordinance on Tuesday that would make work schedules more fair, among other protections for retail workers.
The ordinance, which will impact an estimated 5,000 retail and grocery workers in unincorporated L.A. County , is expected to go into effect in 2025.
This is a huge win for working families across our county.
When we launched the Fair Work Week L.A. campaign in 2017, we envisioned a Los Angeles retail economy that provides reliable jobs and stable incomes for working families. Today, we are another step closer to that reality —even more retail workers across our region will be able to plan their budgets, care for their families, and juggle work and school.
We give huge thanks to the L.A. County Board of Supervisors for their leadership, along with UFCW 770, and our coalition partners, and the LAANE Grocery & Retail Campaign team in making this victory for workers a reality.
