Deep in the Ecuadorian Amazon, the Kichwa people of Sarayaku are renowned for their long term resistance to oil extraction in their ancestral territory. Now, they’re advancing a declaration Kawsak Sacha — the Living Forest — to legally protect the rights of nature and the Kichwa peoples’ role in maintaining the balance of life in the forest.

Will you give today to support a thriving rainforest and healthy climate future? In honor of Earth Day, generous donors are matching all gifts up to $100,000 through April 30!

From rivers and trees, to animals and people, Kawsak Sacha holds that all of the rainforest’s abundant life forms are conscious and interconnected. It offers a model for protecting ecosystems by recognizing the rights of all beings within them.

In Sarayaku and throughout the Amazon rainforest, we can clearly see that where Indigenous worldviews and ancestral land rights are respected, the rainforest is better protected. Indigenous solutions support our collective ability to live on a healthy planet, where biocultural diversity thrives.

This Earth Month, consider a gift in support of a healthy Amazon, the heart pump of our planet! Indigenous peoples are advancing solutions rooted in ancestral practices that have protected the Amazon for millennia. All donations support this movement, and your gift will be doubled by generous donors through April 30!

For the Amazon and Mother Earth,

Leila Salazar-López
Executive Director
