** DEAR FRIENDS,
------------------------------------------------------------

“In the end, we will not remember the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

SHARK has been working on the Mexican Rodeo issue for several years now, with little to no help from outside groups except for the California-based Humane Farming Association. HFA has been our greatest ally when it comes to these events, even though the group is based in California! Meanwhile, there is another group that one would think would be fighting shoulder-to-shoulder with us, but that is not the case.

The Hooved Animal Humane Society makes a lot of strident claims on its website under "Vision and Mission":

"The Hooved Animal Humane Society (HAHS) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 1971 by concerned and committed citizens. HAHS’s vision is a world where no hooved animal experiences abuse and neglect. The mission is to promote the humane treatment of hooved animals through education, legislation, investigation, and, if necessary, legal intervention (impoundment). In addition, we provide physical rehabilitation to animals that have endured severe neglect and abuse and adopt them out to loving forever homes."

Where is the HAHS??

HAHS goes so far as to claim: "In 1973, HAHS was the driving force behind the passage of “The Humane Care for Animals Act.” Through the Illinois Department of Agriculture, this Act gives HAHS the legal authority to investigate claims of abuse and neglect and intervene when owners do not comply with a notice to remedy a situation."

Again, these are brave words, but where has HAHS been for the past TWO YEARS?????!!!!!!

The horses and steers we are fighting to protect in steer tailing events obviously have hooves, and are therefore the very animals HAHS claims to protect. So, where is the HAHS? The Hooved Animal Humane Society is headquartered in McHenry County, Illinois.

McHenry County is one of the counties where we are fighting against steer tailing, and yet, HAHS is silent. What gives?

Horse brutally whipped

“Ferdinand” the poor steer run over and over again with a broken horn until blood streamed down his face.

Horses are brutally beaten, steers used and abused over and over again. Are they not hooved animals that this group should care about? They absolutely should, yet we haven’t heard a peep from our neighbors over at Hooved Animal Humane Society.

Which brings us back to the quote from Martin Luther King: “In the end, we will not remember the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

WITH FRIENDS LIKE THESE, OUR ANIMAL FRIENDS DON'T NEED ENEMIES.

Contact the Hooved Animal Humane Society

and ask them when they will start helping the hooved animals right on their front doors? They live in the county where animals are being abused at Mexican-rodeos and are surrounded by counties where the same abuse is happening nearly every weekend!

Please always be kind and professional, but demand they start helping the animals they claim to be so committed to.
