A weekly wrap of ADL’s reports, updates and analysis on antisemitism around the world.

This Week’s Topline

Countering Antisemitism Act Introduced in Congress

“This historic bill is the most far-reaching antisemitism initiative ever to be introduced in Congress. We applaud the Countering Antisemitism Act and its efforts to implement the National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism and make it permanent.”
— Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL National Director and CEO

This week, we are thrilled to welcome the introduction of the Countering Antisemitism Act. ADL led the efforts on the creation of this important bill along with the Co-Chairs of the House and Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism. Its introduction is thanks to the ADL communities’ advocacy efforts and we ask for your help in calling on Congress to pass it.

The U.S. Jewish community is facing the worst crisis of antisemitism that we have seen in a generation. The Countering Antisemitism Act offers a smart, innovative whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to combating this hatred and protecting Jews around the country. It will create lasting structures to prioritize the fight against antisemitism, including a domestic National Coordinator to Counter Antisemitism and a dedicated Task Force that meets regularly to coordinate efforts to fight antisemitism across agencies.

The act will also promote Holocaust education, address the scourge of antisemitism on college and university campuses across the country, support the life-saving Nonprofit Security Grant Program and more.

MAKING GOOD PROGRESS THIS WEEK

A new ADL partnership will provide Masa Israel Journey fellows and alumni with tools to fight back against antisemitism. This partnership will launch at an event in Jerusalem for Masa gap year program fellows, during which ADL will lead sessions to help fellows prepare to combat antisemitism on college campuses. Through this partnership we are empowering the next generation of Jewish leaders to speak up against hate, protecting Jewish communities worldwide.

What’s News

Ohio State Faces Formal Complaint on Allegations of Antisemitic Climate for Jewish Students: ADL, along with partner organizations, has submitted a formal complaint with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights against Ohio State University. The filing alleges that the university has failed to address the severe discrimination and harassment of Jewish and Israeli students following the Oct. 7 massacre in Israel, which fostered “a hostile antisemitic environment that is now pervasive” at Ohio State. The complaint was filed jointly by ADL, StandWithUs and the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law. We urge the Department of Education to investigate these incidents and compel the university to take immediate action.

Farrakhan’s ‘Absurd Claims’ Against ADL Dismissed: This week, a Federal Court dismissed Louis Farrakhan’s absurd claims against ADL and the Simon Wiesenthal Center, following a $4.8 billion lawsuit brought by Farrakhan last fall. As ADL noted in our response, truth is a defense and no, we will not stop calling out antisemitism wherever and whenever we see it. To mark this victory, please take a moment and read some of the appalling comments by Farrakhan, who we believe to be one of America’s most notorious antisemites.

Alert About Iran-Related Terrorist Threats: In response to Israel’s Foreign Ministry placing Israeli foreign missions around the world on high alert due to potential attacks against Jewish targets by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its terrorist proxies, ADL and the Secure Community Network are urging the American Jewish community to expand its vigilance and preparation to prevent attacks. We also urge law enforcement authorities to be vigilant against any potential threats and act in a proactive way to thwart any potential attacks.
