I’m excited to let you know about my official endorsement of Toni Atkins in the race for California’s next governor.

I’ve known Toni for a long time. We served on the San Diego City Council together for 8 years, and I’ve had the pleasure of working with her many times since then to better our communities. I even had the privilege of officiating her wedding!

Toni made history by becoming the first San Diegan and openly LGBTQ person to serve as Speaker of the Assembly, first woman and openly LGBTQ person to serve as Senate President pro Tempore – and the only woman to have led both houses of the Legislature.

Not only is Toni a trailblazer, but she also has a proven record of uplifting our state. In the State Assembly and State Senate, she delivered investments in clean water, bold climate action, increased health care access, affordable housing, and much more.
