John,
It's Sen. Cindy Holscher, from northeast Kansas – and I've got some concerning news.
As we enter the break from our 2024 legislative session, far-right extremists in both chambers of the legislature have sent multiple bills restricting reproductive rights to the Governor's desk this month – and their veto-proof majority means that nothing is off limits.
Kansas voters made their desire for progress heard back in 2022 and again in 2023, but we need to make sure those voices line up with Democratic votes in 2024 – or conservative extremists will continue putting their own agenda over the people of Kansas.
John, the anti-abortion movement is unpopular among most Kansans, yet overpowered state legislators continue targeting and restricting our rights. Before I tell you about all the bills that made it through the House and Senate, I have a favor to ask: The Kansas Democrats are working hard to help elect more pro-people candidates to our legislature, but they need your help. Can you chip in to continue making their work possible? [[link removed]]

Since the overturn of Roe v. Wade , Kansas Republicans have put up dozens of anti-abortion bills. This session, they took it a step further with:
1️⃣ HB 2749 which expands medically unnecessary and burdensome abortion reporting requirements. This is a further attempt to stigmatize people seeking essential abortion care and is a direct intrusion on the provider- patient relationship.
2️⃣ HB 2436 would create the felony crime of “coercion to obtain an abortion.” In reality it will prevent doctors from having an honest conversation with their patient about their pregnancy or birth control options. I introduced an amendment to this bill to criminalize all forms of reproductive coercion instead of just abortion, but my Republican colleagues defeated it.
On top of it all, my colleagues and I put forward bills to codify the protections of IVF and birth control, but Republicans stopped them. Democrats don't hold enough seats in the legislature to pass lifesaving legislation on our own – which is why we need help from folks like you.
John, it's clear that these bills are about controlling Kansans' bodies and rights, and we cannot continue allowing these legislators to make decisions on our behalf. The Kansas Democrats are pulling out all the stops this year to loosen the extremists' grips on the State Legislature, but they can't do it alone. Can you pitch in $15, $35, $50, or anything you can today to help them elect more people-first Democrats? [[link removed]]
