Healthy Aging Advocacy Alert

The U.S. Senate Can Change to Broaden the Conversation Around Chronic Care

Senate Finance Committee hearing is a valuable opportunity
On April 11, the Senate Finance Committee will hold a hearing about bolstering chronic care. For advocates and supporters of healthy aging, this is a chance to push for the inclusion of obesity in these discussions.

ACT NOW: Encourage the Senate to include obesity on the hearing agenda!

Obesity is linked to over 230 medical conditions and is responsible for an estimated 400,000 deaths annually.

The Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA) would address the problem by providing coverage for anti-obesity medications under Medicare Part D. These medications are approved by the Food and Drug Administration and are proven to help individuals achieve significant weight loss, thereby reducing the risk of getting chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. TROA also would provide Medicare coverage for the full range of obesity treatments, including nutrition counseling, behavioral therapy, and community-based programs.

Ignoring the long-term impact of obesity on the health care system doesn't solve the problem. Talking about solutions is the first step. Send a message to your members of Congress so they can encourage the Senate TODAY!
