Good morning Young Democrats,

What an amazing weekend we just had in Lake Tahoe for the CYD Post-Primary Organizing Retreat! I am excited to recap more below, but I have critical and time-sensitive information I need to share with you:

First, please register to vote in the upcoming California DNC Congressional District Caucus elections, before tomorrow, Thursday, April 11th at 5pm PST, to help choose who will represent California Democrats at the 2024 DNC Convention in Chicago. Please also encourage your fellow young Democrats, friends and family to register to vote to help us elect Young Democrats running! Voting/caucuses will take place April 21, 2024. More details will be provided by CADEM, but you must register now before tomorrow’s 5pm deadline to be able to participate and vote!

I excited to share registration is now open for CYD’s 2024 Convention in San Diego happening alongside the California Democratic Party Executive Board meeting next month, May 17 - 19! Register NOW to lock in your discounted $50 registration to join us in San Diego, where we will have fun networking events, meetings, and elect CYD’s statewide officers! More details and a tentative agenda will be released in the coming weeks.

This last weekend, we hosted our 2024 CYD Post-Primary Organizing Retreat in Lake Tahoe with 200 Young Democrats and allies from all across California: we had trainings and forums to recap the 2024 Primary election results and started to make our plans to help increase young voter participation and turnout, and elect Democrats, in the November 2024 General election!

We also had a TON of fun: congratulations to all the winners of CYD Olympics: we awarded gold, silver and bronze medals for each game including our karaoke party with CA State Treasurer Fiona Ma, speech contest, team trivia, flip-cup, and the best dressed at our sports-themed closing party. In the end, the Los Angeles & Inland Empire Olympics team - led by the Los Angeles County Young Democrats - came out as the winning team!

We also got some very important business done, including making CYD endorsements for young Democrats running for local offices and district level delegate spots to represent California at the 2024 DNC Convention, and numerous Democrats running for State Assembly, State Senate, Congress and United States Senate that aren’t facing other Democrats on the November ballot.

We also voted on positions for legislation, and thankfully, CYD unanimously passed a strong Resolution calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza with the help of CYD leaders of all backgrounds. Young Democrats are energized, ready to fight back against MAGA extremism, and ready to elect Democrats! We know that the stakes are too high. We must come together, organize, and send the clear message that Young Democrats will not stand idly by while Republicans sweep our rights away.

OFFICER ELECTIONS, ENDORSEMENTS & CONVENTION OFFICIAL NOTICE:

The 2024 California Young Democrats Convention will take place in San Diego alongside the CDP Executive Board meeting on May 17 and 18, 2024. Meetings will be at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, located at: 1380 Harbor Island Dr, San Diego, CA 92101. At this Convention, CYD will hold CYD Officer elections for all CYD Officer positions, approve 2024 chartering applications, and consider endorsements per CYD Bylaws. All candidates for CYD Officer positions, including CYD Regional Director candidates, must file their intent to run by email with CYD Secretary Emily Bonner before next Thursday, April 18, 2024. All members of duly chartered CYD chapters are eligible to run for CYD Officer positions.
