| | Egale Canada Welcomes the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Resolution to Protect Intersex People |
| Egale Canada welcomes the United Nations Human Rights Council’s resolution recognizing the urgent need for action to protect intersex people around the world from harmful and unnecessary medical interventions. Though Canada co-sponsored the resolution, the federal government is failing to protect intersex people at home. Surgeries whose only purpose is to "normalize" the appearance of intersex infants' bodies are still legal in Canada. Egale has been calling on the federal government for years to follow its obligations under domestic and international law and criminalize these surgeries, which can have devastating lifelong consequences. Intersex people in Canada deserve to be valued and protected from discrimination, violence, and harmful medical practices that strip them of their bodily autonomy. | | Egale in the News: Standing up for Gender Diverse Students in Saskatchewan With Egale’s legal advocacy in Saskatchewan ongoing, we continue to speak out in support of safe and inclusive school environments for all students. Recently, Egale’s Director of Legal, Bennett Jensen was quoted in an article by the Regina Leader-Post: “Any attempt, any time, by any government to implement policy or legislation that requires the misgendering, deadnaming or outing of gender diverse students is harmful and a violation of those students’ Charter rights, period.” |

| We Won’t Back Down to Hate "I feel that lobbying at the highest levels of government and in the courts is the most effective action that can be taken right now…I was extremely glad to hear about the court challenge Egale will be bringing against the Government of Alberta, and I am grateful to be donating to an organization that puts its money where its mouth is.” – Egale Monthly Supporter (since 2023, in Alberta) Anti-2SLGBTQI hate is on the rise in Canada. As the country’s leading organization for 2SLGBTQI issues and people, we won’t back down to hate. But we need your support. Visit egale.ca/donate to support our work. |
