John, do you remember the Magic School Bus? Miss Frizzle took her students on wild adventures, from inside the human body to outer space. In today’s remake, the Magic School Bus would be electric!
In 2023, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fast-tracked funding for electric school buses — a decision that’s good for kids, drivers and communities — thanks to advocacy from EDF and EDF organization Moms Clean Air Force.
According to the EPA, more than 25 million children in the U.S. ride on a school bus every day, traveling over 4 billion miles each year. That’s more than 160,000 trips around the Earth!
Traditional school buses run on fossil fuels and emit pollution that contributes to climate change and health impacts like asthma and heart disease.
Meanwhile, electric school buses don’t even have tailpipes, making them pollution-free vehicles and safer for our environment and health. They use batteries to store energy, can travel 100 miles on one charge and can even be used as a generator in case of a power outage.
To celebrate Earth Month, do you want to get involved with advocating for electric school buses, but you’re not sure where to start?
# If you have five minutes, take action and send a message urging EPA to prioritize pollution-free school buses for school districts where kids are breathing the dirtiest air. Take action:

With your support, electric school buses across the country will be a reality and not just in the imagination of a fun children’s story.
