WorkWill Historic Job Growth Bring an End to the “Vibecession”? - The New Yorker (No paywall) For months now, one of the key questionsâperhaps the key questionâin American politics has been when, and if, good economic news will feed into the polling data on the Presidential race. Growth in employment and G.D.P. has been much stronger than expected, and the inflation rate has come down faster than predicted. Yet President Biden's approval rating on handling the economy has barely budged. (As of Monday, according to a Real Clear Politics poll average, it stood at a lowly 39.6 per cent.) Last Friday's job figures for March heightened the conundrum. The Labor Department announced that the economy created another 303,000 jobs last month, greatly exceeding Wall Street predictions; the unemployment rate ticked down from 3.9 per cent to 3.8 per cent, marking its twenty-sixth straight month below four per cent, a fifty-year record. Thomas Simons, an analyst at the investment bank Jefferies, commented, "The data leaves us borderline speechless."
WorkTrump Allies Have a Plan to Hurt Biden’s Chances: Elevate Outsider Candidates Whatever the mechanism, the Trump team’s view is simple and is backed by public and private polling: The more candidates in the race, the better for Mr. Trump. Mr. Biden’s team agrees. They left St. Paul, Minnesota, for their home country of Honduras last year, but Jorge stayed behind with an aunt to pursue higher education. Editor's Note: "Instead of walking through the nuance[s] of Pell Grant, state grant, institutional aid, I can say if your family makes under 0,000, public institutions of higher learning in Minnesota will be covered fully. So that is just an easy access point." Minnesota's moves are making waves with its neighbors, too. North Dakota recently announced its own version of the North Star Promise program, while South Dakota is lowering tuition for Minnesota residents. Work

WorkEditor's Note: Some 41% of Huntington Beach residents are registered Republicans, making them the city's largest political tribe. But lately the city's flavour of Republicanism has changed. In 2022 Ms Van Der Mark and several MAGA compatriots ran for the city council as a slate. All were elected, and now serve alongside three Democrats - though local elections there are technically non-partisan. Rhonda Bolton, a Democrat on the council, says the body's politics have become a poisonous sludge that bears a passing resemblance to America's House of Representatives.
