Biden on Netanyahu: "I think what he’s doing is a mistake"

NBC: President Joe Biden upped his criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu role in the Israel-Hamas war but did not indicate any significant changes in U.S. policy toward its Mideast ally. “I think what he’s doing is a mistake,” Biden said in an interview with Univision that’s set to air Tuesday night in response to a question about whether Netanyahu is more concerned about political survival than Israelis’ national interest. “I don’t agree with his approach,” Biden added in the interview that was taped last Wednesday. The president’s remarks illustrate how he is increasingly willing to publicly criticize his Israeli counterpart amid mounting criticism from progressives about Israel’s handling of the war in Gaza (NBC). Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL): Joe Biden is ready to throw Israel overboard for a couple of “uncommitted” votes in Dearborn, Michigan. We need a foreign policy that puts America’s security over ballot box politics (X).

Biden “Examines” Closing the Border After Three Years
Reuters: President Joe Biden said in an interview broadcast on Tuesday that he and his administration are trying to determine whether he has the authority to act on his own to shut down the U.S.’s southern border with Mexico to migrants, should it be deemed necessary. Biden told Univision in the interview that because bipartisan legislation that would have granted him the authority to shut the border was stalled by Republicans in Congress, he was being encouraged to try to do it alone (Reuters). Collin Rugg: After letting 7,298,486+ illegals into the country, Biden is now “examining” the power he has to shut down the U.S. border with the election around the corner. After shuffling his feet for 3 years, Biden is finally ready to “examine” closing down the border. Now that they’ve imported more illegals than the population of 36 states to ensure they win more elections, the Biden administration suddenly cares about closing the border (X).

Illegal Immigrants at NYC Shelter Assault Four Guards During Brawl
Townhall: Four security guards were injured at a shelter for illegal immigrants after they intervened when a group of “thugs” attacked a 24-year-old staying at the NYC facility. The fight broke out in the middle of the night on Monday when the mob jumped the victim, who was eating in his bed. Guards were assaulted with rocks, chairs, and food thrown by the illegal aliens, sending one to the hospital. The victim at the Randall’s Island attack also suffered a stab wound (Townhall). Viral News NYC: The Randall’s island migrant shelter in NYC is a ticking time bomb. Gangs have full control over certain parts of it. So far, multiple stabbings, a murder,  alleged rapes, stolen merchandise being sold, gang violence, drugs, assaults on NYPD officers and staff, and for some reason, often female migrants leave pregnant from there. This is all because of the unmanageable borders (X).

Oakland Crime Spree Continues
National Review: The city of Oakland has experienced a dramatic crime surge since 2020 as arrests plunge and the police department struggles to fill vacancies. From 2020 to 2023 burglaries increased by 99 percent, motor-vehicle theft surged by 72 percent, robberies jumped by 53 percent and homicides went up 16 percent, according to a supplemental police report on the Oakland public safety committee’s April 9 agenda. Arrests plummeted by 50 percent over the same period. As crime surges and staffing levels fall, Oakland is facing a decline in arrests: Arrests dropped from 12,911 in 2016 to 5,576 last year, according to a report by the city’s finance department (National Review). San Francisco Chronicle: Factoring in population, the theft rate was equivalent to roughly one car stolen for every 30 people living in the city. That’s more than four times the rate in both San Francisco and San Jose, which had increases over the past year of 5% and an estimated 12%, respectively. And it comes on top of other woes car owners are facing including rampant break-ins and catalytic converter thefts. Police in California recover many of the vehicles stolen in the state but catch few of the thieves. That’s particularly true in Oakland, where police arrested people in about 4.5% of 2022’s auto thefts — a rate lower than in San Francisco or San Jose (San Francisco Chronicle).

Arizona Supreme Court Elects to Protect Babies in the Womb
Just the News: The Arizona Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a decision upholding a 160-year-old law that bans abortion in nearly all circumstances. The law, which was enacted as early as 1864, gives abortion providers a two- to five-year prison sentence, and it does not include exceptions for rape or incest. Arizona became a state in 1912. The law may only be “enforced prospectively,” and enforcement will begin in 14 days to allow the legal process to play out (Just the News). Axios: The blanket abortion prohibition may only be temporary. Advocates are collecting signatures to refer an abortion rights measure to the November 2024 ballot (Axios).

Judge Determines Washington’s High-Capacity Magazine Prohibition Unconstitutional
Fox News: A Washington judge ruled the state’s high-capacity magazine ban unconstitutional on Monday, but the law will remain in place for now after an emergency order from the state Supreme Court. Cowlitz County Superior Court Judge Gary Bashor ruled Washington lawmakers’ 2022 ban on sales of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds violates both the state and U.S. constitutions. He issued an injunction, which would have stopped the state from enforcing the ban and allowed stores to resume selling high-capacity magazines. But Washington’s attorney general immediately appealed to the state Supreme Court, calling Bashor’s decision “incorrect” and arguing the law is “essential to addressing mass shootings in our communities” (Fox News). National Review: In his ruling, Bashor noted that the state’s supreme court previously found that the state constitution provides for an individual right to bear arms like the Second Amendment, and that the protections offered by the Second Amendment are a “floor” that the state cannot drop below. Bashor dismissed the state’s argument that magazines don’t qualify as arms at all. “Magazines have no other design purpose than as a weapon,” he wrote. “No one is going to butter a sandwich or dice carrots with a magazine of any size” (National Review).

Anti-Israel Protesters Take Over Senate Cafeteria, Terror Leaders Praise Them
Spencer Brown: After Hamas rejected another ceasefire proposal from Israel on Monday — reportedly due to the Hamas barbarians’ inability to provide 40 living hostages as part of proposed exchanges, covered by Guy here — those who wish to see Hamas survive to fight another day took to a Senate cafeteria on Capitol Hill Tuesday afternoon to shut down the normal flow of a legislative day. “SENATE CAN’T EAT UNTIL GAZA EATS,” the demonstrators chanted, ignoring the reality that there’s a backlog of aid waiting to enter Gaza and once trucks are in the country they’re quickly commandeered by Hamas terrorists who have shot residents trying to get their hands on aid. Among the inane demands from demonstrators: the Senate must endorse a ceasefire, restore UNRWA funding, and end military aid to Israel (Townhall). Chad Pergram: USCP: Approximately 50 people were arrested for illegally demonstrating inside the Dirksen Senate Office Building this afternoon. It is illegal to demonstrate inside any of the Congressional Buildings (X). Algemeiner: Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Wednesday praised Americans who are putting pressure on US President Joe Biden to limit support for Israel because they are helping the Lebanese terrorist group’s cause. “Today, what many people demonstrating in America are doing … Of course, we should salute them and be grateful to them,” Nasrallah said in remarks translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (Algemeiner).

House GOP Delays Sending DHS Secretary Mayorkas’ Impeachment Articles to Senate
Just the News: A spokesperson for House Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday confirmed that he would delay sending the articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate at the request of conservatives in the upper chamber. The House voted to impeach Mayorkas in February, but has not yet sent the two articles to the Senate (Just the News). NBC: Senate Democrats, who control the chamber, were expected to quickly vote this week to dismiss or table the two Mayorkas impeachment articles and move on to other business. But Republicans have spent this week demanding the Senate hold a full Senate trial focused on Mayorkas’ handling of border security (NBC).

If Israel Cannot Be Allowed to Defeat Hamas, Evil Nations Will Take Notice and Act Accordingly
Wall Street Journal: If Israel is prevented from defeating Hamas, we should be under no illusions about what it will mean for the future of democracy. If, under the pressure of internal Democratic politics and global public opinion, the Biden administration forces a “cease-fire” that leaves our closest ally in the region short of victory over an enemy that seeks to destroy it, sooner or later we shall all pay the price. This isn’t only because Israel is a democratic nation fighting nihilist savages and theocratic tyrants, though it is that. It is because forcing it to succumb to moral outrage over the violence that invariably comes with waging war would represent the self-imposition of an inescapable restraint on our own ability to defend ourselves. Of course Israel is battling, above all else, for its own survival. Every Islamist terrorist Israel kills is one fewer threat to the rest of us. Every setback Israel can deal to the Iranian puppet masters of Hamas, Hezbollah and others inflicts a loss on the regime that is sworn to eliminate us, the “Great Satan,” and our allies. There is no historical evidence that appeasing enemies committed to our extinction ever keeps us safe (Wall Street Journal). Shaiel Ben-Ephraim: Hamas has told the mediators that it does not have 40 hostages in the humanitarian category that are still alive. That is a category of women, children, the elderly, and the sick. The number that they say is alive, which is significantly lower, has not been made public. This, of course, is a serious obstacle for the ceasefire talks that seem to be progressing (X).

Norfolk Southern Settles for $600 Million for Train Derailment in East Palestine, Ohio
Wall Street Journal: Norfolk Southern agreed to pay $600 million to settle lawsuits brought by individuals and businesses in connection with a toxic train derailment in Ohio early last year. The tentative settlement announced Tuesday still has details yet to be completed, including determining a formula for distributing funds that accounts for their proximity to the derailment site. The settlement is pending approval in the U.S. District Court in Ohio, and Norfolk Southern said it doesn’t reflect an admission of liability, wrongdoing or fault (Wall Street Journal). Associated Press: The company said the agreement, if approved by the court, will resolve all class action claims within a 20-mile radius from the derailment and, for those residents who choose to participate, personal injury claims within a 10-mile radius from the derailment (Associated Press).
