National Updates

The Progressive Islam Curriculum

We are so excited to announce that Unit 1 “What is Islam?” of The Progressive Islam Curriculum is now available to download
on our website!

The Progressive Islam Curriculum, generously funded by the A&A Foundation, is a culmination of MPV’s desire to increase
accessibility of progressive interpretations so that the general Muslim population has the tools to understand and practice
the truly traditional form of Islam. It is our hope that through studying the curriculum, generations of Muslims to come can
be oriented towards and knowledgeable about an Islam that is rooted in human rights and traditional and independent
interpretations

The Aql Series

This Ramadan, Muslims for Progressive Values celebrated the month with a special digital education series, The Aql Series.
The inspiration for the series was the Quranic call to improve our knowledge about Islam and Islamic values. The series was
designed specifically to encourage our community to dive deeper into the Islamic faith by honoring the pursuit of intellect,
a core aspect of our faith. The full series can be viewed on our social media below.

National Updates

We joined together with 125+ groups in strong support of Adeel Mangi’s confirmation to the 3rd Circuit — and we condemn the
anti-Muslim attacks against this tremendously qualified nominee who would be the first Muslim federal appellate judge.

Chapter Updates

MPV San Francisco

The MPV San Francisco Bay community has been engrossed with Ramzanul Mubarak, the Blessed Month of Ramadan on the one hand,
and the events in Gaza and the wider Holy Land on the other. The chapter is also planning to meet for an Eid Dinner at a
local restaurant. As always, chapter events are listed on the chapter Meetup page ( [link removed] ), and
further details about the chapter can be found at the Chapter Intro online ( [link removed] ).

The annual Potluck Iftar was held on March 22. This is always the chapter’s most well-attended event of the year. A chance
for regular members to sync up and for new people to find a community they fit into and, as one attendee put it, “be one’s
whole self”. “The first time I felt safe and comfortable in a jama’a,” another attendee said.

Amongst the events members attended in relation to the crisis in Gaza was the 22-mile ‘walking prayer’ in the East Bay, which
drew hundreds calling for Gaza cease-fire. Chapter member Yousef Turshani ( [email protected] ) was interviewed by
public radio station KQED and can be heard describing the event half way through this instagram clip ( [link removed] ). The San Francisco Chronicle article on the event is here ( [link removed] ).
