John –

Ten years ago, I was sitting at the Minnesota State Capitol in the middle of the night. After what felt like an endless journey, we were celebrating the final passage of the Safe and Supportive Minnesota Schools Act.

I remember the bravery of the students who I testified alongside, the incredible advocates who were steadfast in their support of students, and most of all I remember the immense joy and relief we all felt when it was finally signed into law the next day.

Although it was a joyous moment, I knew then, just like I know now, even though it was a monumental step forward our fight was far from over.

Ten years later we are still fighting for safe and supporting schools for all students.

We cannot go backwards. We cannot “be neutral”. We cannot let our schools become less safe.

We must to ensure that every single student, regardless of their school district, are able to learn in a safe and welcoming environment.

In solidarity,
Kyrstin
