Yes to EKCPUD update– The campaign to create a Public Utility District (PUD) in east King County to replace PSE as the provider of electrical power is going strong but we need you help!! The current COVID-19 crisis, with its necessary “Stay at Home” order and restrictions on large gatherings, has created a major roadblock in the ability to collect the ~35,000 signatures from registered voters in the proposed PUD area needed by the end of June to get the proposal on the ballot this November. Because climate change is an issue that will not wait while even in the midst of a global pandemic, the East King County PUD campaign is determined to forge ahead, but we need your help! If you're willing to sign, collect signatures from your immediate family, and/or a few neighbors or friends (while practicing appropriate social distancing), please email the campaign's Volunteer Coordinator, Barbra Chevalier, with your name and mailing address. She will mail you a petition along with a self-addressed, stamped, return envelope, and email you instructions for gathering signatures. Or, if you wish, you can request a petition by visiting www.ekc-pud.org/sign-the-petition. The campaign needs petitions returned by June 15; the petition does not have to be completely filled with signatures before you return it! Stand Up To Oil and Power Past Fracked Gas
Our coalition community is responding to COVID-19 and calling for critical support for those most impacted by this public health crisis in the Pacific Northwest. Can you take these three important actions today? La Resistencia, part of our Power Past Fracked Gas coalition, is demanding that people in the ICE Northwest Detention Center and Washington prisons who are medically vulnerable are protected. Show your support by adding your name to this petition and learn more about the full week of action here. · Communities in rural Oregon, including those who have been fighting the massive Jordan Cove LNG export terminal, are calling on Governor Kate Brown for an immediate ban on aerial pesticide spraying during the COVID-19 crisis, which can pose risks to lung health for those with respiratory ailments. April 22-24th: Three days of virtual Earth Day events – Register here! The original plan: three consecutive days of strikes starting on April 22, 2020, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Targeting the financiers of the Climate Emergency on April 23 with Stop the Money Pipeline’s day of action, taking the fight directly to the companies funding climate chaos. Now we're taking that fight digital. The COVID-19 pandemic has upended life as we know it. Stop the Money Pipeline, like all of us, must adapt to the new situation. We’ve already moved our plans for a mass mobilization online, joining with the Future Coalition to announce Earth Day Live, 3-days of online action to fight the climate crisis. April 23rd will be a day for us to come together online and define what a new economy could look like. An economy that helps us recover from this horrible pandemic and prevent future outbreaks. An economy that helps working people and restores our social safety net. An economy that supports solutions to the climate crisis, rather than fueling the companies that got us into this mess. |
