In the last six months, all that children in Gaza have known is violence and destruction.
Unrelenting missile strikes have turned homes and schools into rubble. The constant threat of attack has forced children and families to flee for a hint of safety. Humanitarian needs are rising with each day as famine looms.
Six long months of living in crisis — with no clear end in sight.
Since the escalation of violence last October, UNICEF and partners have responded — and continue to act — to deliver hope and support for children. Despite an ongoing blockade on humanitarian aid and challenges to delivery, UNICEF has found ways to help by:
-
Moving nearly 600 trucks and 40 charter flights into Gaza with emergency supplies that have reached over one million people — 43 percent of the population
-
Reaching more than 150,000 children and caregivers with emergency and child protection services including psychosocial support
-
Providing cash transfers to help more than 550,000 people — over 80,000 families, including nearly 300,000 children — afford necessities
-
Advocating for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and an end to the ongoing blockade on assistance. UNICEF has positioned three months of supplies in Jordan and Egypt with trucks on standby should access increase or a ceasefire occur
Still, with the entire population of 2.23 million people facing high levels of acute food insecurity and 1.7 million people displaced in Gaza, more help is urgently needed. The effects of this emergency will have lasting effects on children and UNICEF won’t stop responding to provide relief and meet children’s needs.
