Fulfillment Fund

April 2024 Newsletter

Since our last newsletter, we've made some progress in addressing a few of the challenges our students are encountering with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Social security numbers are no longer required to create an account to apply, the deadline was extended by a month, and some colleges, in California at least, also delayed their commitment deadlines to account for the FAFSA issues.

Learn more about our work.

Our College Counselors and College Success Advisors are working around the clock to help our students overcome the challenges baked into this process. In fact, thus far, our team has spent four times as many hours as we did at this point last year to help our students successfully submit their FAFSA. We will also participate in the FAFSA Week of Action, taking place April 15-19, as part of the White House and the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) effort to drive more submissions.

Despite these improvements, our journey is far from over. We still need your support to ensure that the new process of applying for critical financial aid doesn't perpetuate existing inequities. You can help us get loud by calling your elected officials or using your network to shed light on this issue. You can also support us by becoming a monthly donor or by donating to our scholarship fund. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and pave the way for a brighter future.

Senior Day at LACC

We took forty 12th graders from Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools to Los Angeles City College’s (LACC) Senior Day. There, they joined hundreds of freshman hopefuls to learn what the community college has to offer. Our team engaged a new cohort of students to sign up for our College Success Program by sharing the type of services they would receive with Fulfillment Fund. Check out more photos from Senior Day.

Relive the night!

Sipped and Celebrated in 2023

Last year, we had a fantastic time when our community came together to uplift education equity for all. Fulfillment Fund donors, alums, and volunteers gathered in Hollywood to dine on fare by critically-acclaimed Mother Wolf and celebrate Lakeshore Learning. Relive the night — or indulge in FOMO — by browsing through last year's photo album.
