With the April 15 tax deadline quickly approaching, I wanted to reach out and make sure you know that Direct File, the new IRS pilot program to prepare and file your taxes for free, is open and ready to use in California!
Thanks to President Biden and Congressional Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act, we are creating a fairer tax system that holds the ultra-wealthy accountable and improves services for every taxpayer.
The Direct File program is one of those services! Direct File is a new tool from the IRS that allows eligible taxpayers to prepare and file their tax returns online, for free, directly with the IRS – saving taxpayers time and money!
Right now, Direct File is operating as a pilot program – but it is available for Californians in English and Spanish. It works on mobile devices and includes dedicated support from IRS specialists. I urge all Californians to explore if Direct File is right for you and take advantage of the program’s free, simple, and secure way to file this filing season.
