John, Coronavirus is presenting a threat to our way of life unprecedented in modern times.
Throughout this crisis, it’s made me so proud to see Liberal Democrats in local government rising to the challenge.
Whether we’re running a council, or are in opposition, Liberal Democrats have risen to the challenge and made a real difference to their communities.
In my Council, Portsmouth, we're pulling out all the stops to support local people. Here's a few examples of what we’re doing:
✔︎ Hired a hotel for everyone who is homeless to live in so they can self isolate.
✔︎ Set up a system for taking shopping and prescriptions to people who can’t go out because they are self-isolating.
✔︎ Actively phoning people on the Government’s at-risk list to make sure they are OK.
✔︎ Putting in place food parcels for children who would have received free school meals.
✔︎ Set up a helpline for local businesses to help them access Government help to keep businesses going.
✔︎ Stopped enforcement by traffic wardens, except where people are parking dangerously to impede emergency vehicles
✔︎ Working with our foodbanks to get them the supplies they need and to get the food out to vulnerable people.
Whether you're a councillor yourself or an activist supporting us from home - thank you.
Britain needs the Liberal Democrats now more than ever - I'm so proud of the way we've all stepped up for our country.
