I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America – I serve to fight and work to make it stronger, and I believe our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service,   Mann.House.Gov   The Week Ahead This week, the House of Representatives will send the articles of impeachment against U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the U.S. Senate. Earlier this year, I voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas for refusing to uphold federal immigration laws. Since President Biden took office, and under Secretary Mayorkas’ watch, there have been nearly 9 million illegal border crossings. The reality is that President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas do not care about illegal immigration, fentanyl, human trafficking, and the crime flooding across the southern border. They have created a national security and humanitarian crisis, and the U.S. Senate needs to schedule an impeachment trial, vote on the articles of impeachment, and hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable. As a member of the House Small Business Committee, I appreciate the Salina Chamber’s advocacy on behalf of its 1,450 members and its mission to bolster economic prosperity in the community. Thank you to the Chamber for giving me the privilege of praying over the evening and to everyone in attendance. It is an honor to serve the Salina community in Congress. Meeting with Kansas Legislators Last week, I met with Kansas state legislators and shared an update about my work in Congress. We discussed issues at the top of the minds of Kansans like the ongoing border crisis, out-of-control government spending, and the weaponization of the federal government. Washington needs some Kansas commonsense, which is why I made a commitment to the Big First. This legislative roadmap outlines how I am working in Congress to address these concerns. It was also encouraging to hear about their work in Topeka on behalf of communities in the Big First. Their leadership is vital to our state's prosperity, and I'm grateful for their service. Click here to see my Commitment to the Big First. Barton, Hutchinson Community Colleges Win NJCAA National Championships There are two 2024 NJCAA champions in the Big First! Congratulations to the Barton Community College men’s basketball team on winning their first national championship! The Cougars finished the season ranked number one in the country and brought home the gold. Great job, Cougars! The Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team also won the NJCAA National Championship! The team finished the season undefeated and brought home the first national championship title in the program’s history. Great season, Blue Dragons!     In the Office Defending the Rights of Law-Abiding Gun Owners The Biden Administration is slowly stripping away the rights of law-abiding gun owners. Every year, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) falsely denies thousands of Americans their Second Amendment rights because of minor clerical errors in the system's records. Sadly, this has become just another back-door attempt by the White House to weaken the Second Amendment. This is unacceptable. The Second Amendment is a load-bearing wall in our system of rights. If you weaken a load-bearing wall, the entire structure is compromised. As the representative for the Big First District, I am committed to protecting the Second Amendment and preserving the Constitution of the United States. I am proud to cosponsor the Firearm Due Process Protection Act, which would provide Americans the ability to seek a court judgment to correct invalid information, increase oversight, and require that the total number of appeals be annually reported to Congress. This commonsense legislation gives law-abiding Americans a course of action to correct these errors in a timely manner while holding the NICS system accountable. Supporting Agricultural Innovation for American Energy Independence Agricultural research and innovation are pivotal to America’s energy independence and economic development. Harnessing the potential of American-grown commodities like winter oilseeds supports the entire agriculture and energy supply chain – from grower to consumer. I am proud to introduce the Winter Oilseed Study Act of 2024, which aims to facilitate the growth of energy-abundant and sustainable fuel feedstocks by supporting expanded access to crop insurance and research into yield improvements and environmental benefits of new crop rotations. "Home" by Katherine Price, Lawrence High School, Lawrence, KS My office is accepting submissions for this year's Congressional Art Competition. Each spring, the U.S. House of Representatives hosts a nationwide high school arts competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and the Big First District. This year, my office's theme is - Kansas, There's No Place Like Home. The contest is open to all high school students in the Big First District. The winning artwork for our district will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. Students may submit one piece of art. All artwork must be delivered to my Manhattan or Dodge City office, or received by one of my staff members by April 17, 2024.
