In the Chancellor’s recent budget there was some good news for people facing unmanageable personal debt. One of the main schemes for debt relief has been made a lot easier to access, which should help 40,000 families write off stressful debts every year.
This is great news and wouldn’t have happened without sustained pressure.
But it’s not that surprising that debts have built up, considering what we’ve all been though in the last few years. Pandemic, cost of living crisis, energy price hikes.
People will be saddled with this debt for years to come, unless action is taken.
We need much bigger and bolder changes to deal with the debt crisis, and we need to make sure that whoever forms the next government will take action to bring down the debt.
Thousands of people have fed into surveys, or come together in person, to help put this manifesto together.
Now we need to make it impossible to ignore.
