Dear Friend,
This Wednesday, we celebrated the more than $54 million of community project funding I have secured for community projects for Minnesota’s 5th district. This year alone, 15 projects in Minnesota’s 5th district will receive $12.7 million of federal funds for their projects, which will have huge, lasting, positive impacts on our community. You can learn more about all of the projects my office helped secure funding for last year here.

Visiting Richfield College Experience
I had the pleasure of visiting the Richfield College Experience Program that prepares students for success after high school. As a former nutrition educator, I understand the importance of building an environment of support and understanding to better serve students’ needs. That’s why I was proud to see how this program focuses on meeting students where they are while investing in strong relationships between faculty and students.
Hosting Our Town Hall in St. Anthony at Silverwood Park
I want to express my sincere gratitude to Mayor Wendy Webster, Ramsey County Commissioner Mary Jo McGuire, and all the constituents who took time out of their busy schedules to attend my recent town hall in St. Anthony at Silverwood Park. The robust turnout and engagement from community members was truly inspiring. Your voices and personal stories help guide my work to better address the real needs in our community.
Breaking Fast with Community Members at Masjid An-Nur
I was honored to attend Masjid An-Nur’s iftar with Imam Makram El-Amin and the greater Minneapolis Muslim community on Monday night to enjoy this special and sacred time during Ramadan. My team and I were able to meet with many residents to talk about how we can work together to solve problems, whether at home or across the globe. We also discussed the needs of the Muslim community as it continues to grow quickly in our district.
Fighting to Lower Health Care Costs
I moderated the House of Representatives floor debate last month for the Preventative Health Savings Act, which aims to provide Congress with more information on the budgetary impact of preventative healthcare services. This bill recognizes that investing in early prevention could improve healthcare outcomes while lowering costs for families. I will keep fighting for accessible preventative healthcare as it has been proven time and time again to be one of the most cost-effective and efficient ways to make healthcare affordable for all. You can read more about this floor debate here.

Meeting with Seniors in Fridley
Listening directly to constituents is so important to understanding the real issues impacting people's lives. That’s why I met with seniors residing at Village Green Apartments in Fridley. For many of these residents living on fixed incomes, the rising costs of groceries, rent, utilities, and other daily necessities are making it increasingly difficult to make ends meet. They worry about affording their prescription drug coverage and health insurance premiums on top of other medical expenses. The future of Social Security and Medicare programs is also a source of anxiety. Protecting vital programs like Social Security, expanding affordable housing options, and lowering healthcare costs for seniors is a top priority of mine. If you are an elder living in a senior residence or know someone who is and would like me to visit, please reach out to our office to schedule a group visit: [email protected].
In Service,
Ilhan Omar
