Defender of Wildlife,
A potential disaster is in store for one of our nation’s largest and most important wildlife refuges.
A mining company called Twin Pines Minerals is continuing its campaign to strip mine for titanium on the edge of the unspoiled Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, a wetland of international importance.
Florida black bears, herons, ibises, cranes, alligators and more are all in danger if this project gets approval!
TAKE ACTION: Tell the US Army Corps of Engineers to reject plans to strip mine at the edge of the Okefenokee Refuge.
Okefenokee is a place of stunning natural beauty. This refuge shelters thousands of species living in the swamp’s mosaic of cypress forests, pine islands, lily ponds, blackwater channels and other wildlife habitats. People come from all over the world to experience the Okefenokee and its vast diversity of life.
That’s why past efforts to despoil the near-pristine Okefenokee were met with a huge national outcry.
But now the mining industry is back, and we need your help again: They’re proposing a smaller project area in a blatant attempt to get around the environmental review process, with plans to expand in the future.
We need your help again: Raise your voice and stop this sneak attack on the Okefenokee!
Defender of Wildlife, by signing today, you can demand that the US Army Corps of Engineers holds Twin Pines accountable for the damage their mine poses to the environment. Either they must reject this permit altogether, or a full environmental impact statement must be required!
Our wildlife and wild places are worth more than one company’s profits. Please take action now to stop this reckless plan from damaging the Okefenokee!
Thanks for all you do for wildlife and habitat.
Sincerely,
 |
