** Boston Police Officers Honored with Red Cross Heroes Award for Lifesaving 'Stop the Bleed' Program
------------------------------------------------------------

HoodLine || April 5, 2024

The American Red Cross has awarded Sergeant Detective John Burrows and Police Officer Awan Freeman of the Boston Police Department with the Red Cross Heroes Award for their lifesaving skills and educational outreach via the 'STOP THE BLEED® Program', the department's official website announced.

Thanks to the program, both officers have been hitting the streets teaching everyday citizens how to keep a bleed from turning deadly. STOP THE BLEED® isn't just a fancy phrase, it's a critical skill set being taught by these officers, providing community members with three simple, yet effective techniques to save lives in emergencies.

In their own words, added the department, "Time is paramount in emergency situations, learning such things can – and has – helped save lives."

The commendable efforts of these two officers showcase a police force that's engaging with its community in meaningful ways, reflecting positively on the everyday endeavors of Boston's peacekeepers to ensure public safety.

** Danbury Police, Firefighters, To Square Off In 'Battle Of The Badges'
------------------------------------------------------------

Patch.com || April 7, 2024

Danbury first responders are going head-to-head in the 3rd Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive & Emergency Preparedness Day. On Wednesday, April 24, the Danbury Police and Fire Departments, the Office of Emergency Management, and Health and Human Services will work to recruit donors and see which team can save the most lives by donating blood.

Community preparedness resources will be available at the event, including STOP THE BLEED® "Red Cross Homes Made Safer," and hands-only CPR. The Danbury Police, Danbury Fire, Danbury Emergency Medical Services, and the Red Cross will bring emergency and rescue vehicles for a "touch- a-truck" event, making this a family-focused event.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Danbury Fair Mall. The blood drive will be on the upper level between the Apple Store and Lululemon.

The emergency preparedness and "touch-a-truck" events will be directly below on the lower level.
