The U.S Fish and Wildlife Service admits wolf-killing in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming could wipe out 75% of wolves there, but still won't protect them.

So the Center for Biological Diversity is taking the Service to court for selling out wolves in the northern Rockies.

Montana allows wolves to be killed using bait and strangulation snares. A single hunter can kill 10 wolves — and trap an additional 10.

Idaho hires private contractors to kill wolves and lets hunters chase wolves down with hounds and all-terrain vehicles.

And across most of Wyoming, wolves can be killed without a license in nearly any manner and at any time.

Yet federal wildlife officials refuse to act, so we had no choice but to take legal action.

Political interference in Congress prematurely ended Endangered Species Act protection for these wolves years ago. They've suffered under state persecution ever since, with hundreds of wolves killed each year.

We petitioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to right the injustice perpetrated on wolves. The agency refused.

Our latest legal action seeks a court order to force the Service to use current science and determine whether protection under the Act is needed. One look at the slaughter of wolves in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming shows that it is. These states have demonstrated they can't be trusted to manage wolves and put them on the road to recovery.

Wolves are loyal, social animals who can fully recover in the wild if just given a chance. Our promise is to never stop doing all we can to provide that chance.
