We have seven months to go until Election Day, and my MAGA opponent has already raised more than half a million dollars(!) . The more I think about it, the more concerning this news becomes.
It’s one thing to ignore a fringe candidate because his extreme views are beyond reasonable discussion. Fox News already gives these guys a 24/7 platform to spew whatever nonsense is on their minds – I certainly don’t need to add to the free press.
But it’s another thing when your Trump-idolizing opponent is building up a sizable war chest of cash in a sincere effort to turn our district red.
And it’s not just my seat. Thanks to Donald Trump’s hold over the Republican Party, Democrats all across the country are facing challenges from out-of-touch extremists just like Bill Wells.
I know my constituents, and I know they want representation rooted in integrity, policy backed by science, and inclusive, thoughtful leadership.
But as we look around at what’s happening in our country, it’s clear we need to make a strong statement this November. We need to reject extremism and division – and send a message that you can’t run on a platform of bigotry and conspiracy theories and still win.
To do that, Democrats have to step up our fundraising efforts.
Defeating my opponent and helping other Democrats win in November isn’t going to come easy, or cheap. So I’m asking directly for your support – will you consider chipping in whatever amount is meaningful to you? [[link removed]]
I know my opponent’s extreme views don’t align with the values of this district or the American people. He opposes abortion under all circumstances, wants to overturn marriage equality, and thinks climate change is a hoax used to control people.
But we can’t ignore the signs that Donald Trump, his acolytes, and his entire brand of politics have a real shot at winning again in 2024.
Despite attempting to overturn the 2020 election, leading an insurrection on January 6, 2021, and currently facing 91 felony counts, Trump still has a hold on the American public. That’s why national Republicans are throwing money at fringe candidates all over the country, including my opponent.
Fighting back against Trumpism and MAGA candidates is going to take ALL of us making a concerted effort every day between now and November.
