Responds to COVID-19
------------------------------------------------------------
Dear John,

This moment is uncertain, it is scary and unprecedented. But we are resilient. Urgent Action Fund’s model of rapid response grantmaking was built for moments like this, where quick infusions of funding can address immediate and urgent needs.

As the COVID-19 pandemic intensifies and spreads, we know that it will have a significant and disproportionate impact on the health and wellbeing of women, LGBTQ activists, Black and Brown communities, and those living with disabilities. We want to assure you that UAF is committed to being flexible and responsive in this moment, listening to and learning from all of our partners and advisors; and shifting our grantmaking priorities to address urgent community needs.

To meet this moment UAF is announcing the launch of our “COVID Crisis Fund For Feminist Activists.”

Since March 1st, UAF has already approved 8 COVID-19 related grant requests. We are working around the clock to get funds to those in urgent need including:
* Formerly and currently incarcerated women in California who are launching a campaign to push for the release of elderly prisoners with serious medical needs while prisons improve their COVID-19 response and implement preventative measures.
* Disability rights leaders in Kyrgyzstan, to provide remote mental health counseling and food & hygiene kits for activists with disabilities.
* Roma women and the LGBTQ community in Serbia, to support the printing and disbursement of educational materials and hygiene packages to four Roma settlements.
* The trans community in the Washington D.C. metro area, especially Black trans and people living with HIV to cover self-care strategies, including survival kits, peer support, counseling, and transportation costs.
* Due to imposed travel restrictions in Lithuania, a previous UAF grantee is stuck in the country and came to us for help getting out.

We are reaching out to our community of supporters and asking each of you to join us in responding to the COVID-19 crisis. Please consider making a generous contribution to the COVID Crisis Fund for Feminist Activists to help our courageous activists and their communities at this critical time. We thank you in advance for your support.
